Anything to Break the Addiction to Thought
Let me win in the world of thought, action, accomplishment, and if not I’ll fall back to the spiritual. That’s often been my attitude. And it’s not so uncommon. People resort to spirit in hard times.
So how to combat that worldly default?
Ritual. Regular bouts of yoga, meditation. This blog. Walks in the woods. (Although I need to keep an eye on my dog or else he’ll run off after a squirrel or a deer.)
I sometimes use Eckhart Tolle tips like asking myself: Do I have a problem in this moment? Gratitude always helps. Mindless moments with the dog.
When I find myself in a loop of compulsive thought, I focus instead on how I feel right now. It’s often “not so good” but better than compulsive thought.
